FibroScan® Procedure at Arizona Liver Health

We are proud to offer each of our patients the painless FibroScan® procedure. It is a non-invasive yet advanced scan used to assess liver health in only a few minutes. We offer this free to each of our patients. It works by measuring fatty liver tissue and any scarring of the liver. The mechanical shear wave it produces can measure the stiffness of a patient’s liver. This process is sometimes called Liver Ultrasonographic Elastography.

Are you ready to schedule your free scan? Here is what you can expect during the procedure:

  1. A painless probe, which measures a 3 cm3 volume of tissue from your liver, will press noninvasively into the skin near your rib cage. This tissue is then used for further liver evaluation.
  2. The mechanical shear wave mentioned above flows through your liver in this next phase. To minimize sampling error, the examination volume is 100 times the size of your typical biopsy of the liver.
  3. The vibrations created by this procedure can measure the attenuation levels and stiffness of your liver in this third step. This helps to determine how fatty your liver is. All results are shared with your medical provider after this final step.
